Feminism: Sources You Need to Know

Actualizado: 18 oct 2020

Greetings to everyone! My name is Arantxa Garcia, and I am also a member of this website.

Feminism and the fight for it are positively shaping the world. But, what’s the difference between early feminists and modern feminists? Social media! Social media is one of the best ways to learn about a current issue. Not only could you follow and organization, but also support local activist. The best part is that this information can turn global, spreading knowledge about feminism!

My Favorite Feminist Activism, Social Media Accounts:

This Instagram account is called @feminist. It posts daily feminist news and historical context regarding feminism. Feminist also posts about body image and self-love, inspiring women to love themselves even more. This page has a Twitter, Tik Tok, and resources for women who face any gender abuse in their Instagram highlights. With a modern way, Feminist has been able to deliver their content considerably. This page currently has 5.6 million followers.

Sad girls club, besides from being a social media account, is also a nonprofit organization. This account not only supports feminism but also raises awareness about women’s mental health. Sad girls club has a blog as well, in which they post articles regarding women’s common interests around the world. With a beautiful aesthetic, this account manages to spread a message while attracting followers at the same time.

Feminist herstory is another account created by @femenist. As I mentioned before, @femenist also posts about women in history. Because of this, the creators decided to create a separate account to represent the important women throughout history. With a vintage black and white aesthetic Feminist herstory posts pictures of prominent female leaders in history with a short description of their impact and lives. This description also includes quotes and the date where their photos were taken. The range of women goes from Frida Kahlo, a Mexican artist, to Carrie Fischer, an American actress. This account is a beautiful way to demonstrate women’s empowerment and remember valiant women in the past.

Going back to feminism in the Dominican Republic, which I wrote my last article about, I introduce Elaine Feliz. She is a Dominican journalist who specializes in female education and women’s rights. With this title, she became a lecturer, launching a podcast and visiting schools in the Dominican Republic to discuss important issues. She speaks about sex education, women’s rights, and tolerance. These topics are essential and scarce in the Dominican Republic. This woman also works with low-income people who do not know this subject in this country. With her help, she helps young women and parents with teen pregnancies and sexual diseases and teaches them their worth. With her social media, she has changed the Dominican Republic.
